shutdown to single user and halt at last resort - Re: booting from CD on Alphastation 255

Sorry for my post, I only saw the first part of your message in
my window.
If you type "shutdown -h now", does your system not stop at the console
prompt? If this is the case, then your only alternative is to shutdown
to single user mode, sync the disks, and halt.
