Sounds like X is at least working for you now. I don't know what else is
wrong, but it does looks like you have some mouse problems (as indicated by
the (EE) lines in the log).
I could be wrong about this, but I think the /dev/input/mice thing comes with
a 2.6 kernel and the ps_mouse module. You appear to be running a 2.2 (you
may want to update that *grin*), so I'm guessing you want a different mouse
device (such as /dev/psaux for a PS/2 mouse or /dev/ttyS0 [or ttyS1] for
serial mouse, etc).
