OK... using the qla1280 backport from 2.6.10 _and_ the printk line in
fs/ext3/super.c seems to fix the problem.

I'll add these two patches to kernel-source-2.6.8.

Packages of the next kernel-image-2.6.8-alpha upload with those two
patches applied:
