gcc 3.3 compiled kernel on stable?

Hello,
we have a dual CPU rawhide, which we just converted to Debian. Since
gcc 2.9x compiled kernels do not get it into SMP, we set up a
changeroot with sid and compiled 2.4.21 from Debian + grsec patch. Now
the machine runs SMP fine, but modules do not work.

Unhandled relocation of type 10 for .text

After patching stable modutils with

http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367

this error has vanished, but now all modules show unresolved symbols.
Is there anything else we have to be aware of for using a modularized
gcc 3.3 compiled kernel, or do we have to use a static one?

Thanks

       Helge
