I had the same problem with my AlphaXL 366 - it had a 3DLabs Oxygen 102
in it, which is based on the Cirrus Logic GD5428 chipset. I could never
get even the normal svga server running on it, except in 640x480x4 bit.

I ended up putting a Matrox Mystique instead. The Oxygen now sits in my
spare parts bin, which is a shame because it would have had better 3D
speed than the Mystique. But I need the machine mostly as a server, so I
didn't mind that much.

In your case, the card seems even more powerful, so you might be able to
find a Windows machine where it could be used (or sell it on ebay for a
nice price). And I too recommend relatively old Matrox cards to replace
it in your Alpha. They're cheap now, and will probably do the job very
well.

Good luck,

J-S
