Needs some info on as1200 drive shelf...again

Hello -
I got my hands on some dec drives, and so I thought i would put the
backplane back into my as1200 and make use of that cool storageworks
shelf.  I was thinking a nice raid5 array (software) with 6 drives plus
a spare.  But as it's configured now, all the drives would be on one
scsi bus, and I'm thinking that it would be kindof oversaturated in a
raid5 configuration.  It looks to me, that the shelf is actually two
buses connected together with a small jumper cable.  Can i remove this
jumper, add a terminator, and connect a second cable?  And I suppose i
would also eliminate the sym20101 expander card.  I haven't found that
much info on the shelf itself - not really sure of the model; is it a
ba356?
Any help would be appreciated greatly!
