Re: x4 + pci radeon 7500

Hello Tom,

I believe what you are looking for is DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) to enable
DRI. In the 2.4.18-26.9 kernel that is being tested for RH-7.2 for Alpha, we
do have the PCI radeon 7000 working on the Alpha Architecture with a little
mucking about. So there is some hope that your 7500 might work.

We are using the default DRM from XFree86 4.3.0. In most cases, this works
with the 4.1.0 XFree86 provided in RH-7.2. There are some problematic cases
(such as the Radeon 7000) where the old DRM is still needed with this X
server. The "old" DRM modules are still provided in 2.4.18-26.9 with a -4.1.0
appended to their name. These can be selected with aliases in
/etc/modules.conf. For example, if you have a Radeon 7000 and have
trouble with 3D apps with the default DRM, you can select the old DRM by
adding this line to /etc/modules.conf:

       alias radeon radeon-4.1.0

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

P.S - I have previously chatted on the list about the 2.4.18-26.9 test kernel.
If you can not find the reference, please send me a private e-mail for the
URL.
