I thought this was a bug with GDK on non-x86 archs? The X people for alpha seem to think its not an xlibs problem, as it affects 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2. I have only experienced this problem with gtk 1.2x, as I have yet to try gdk 2.0 on my alpha, so I dunno if that upgrade will fix anything or not.

It's a bug in the X idle notification extension (see bug
#161072).  Unfortunately, this library is linked statically, so one
would have to fix xlibs and then recompile those applications. This
should already be fixed in unstable.

I'm sorry - I think I may have asked this question
a few months back.  I actually run "testing".
In general, how unstable is "unstable"?
