Ok, I can try, but maybe it would be better if somebody knowing alpha would
do this, letting the old special cases remain on arches that still don't use
the generic disk and moving the rest to the generic method.

Could this be posible, or shall I try to do it and post it here so that you
can take a look and make corrections?
