Hi!

I don't know about 2.2.17, but I'm running 2.2.16 on ruffian for more than
a year now without any problems. dmesg says:

eth0: DC21143 at 0x8800 (PCI bus 0, device 15), h/w address
00:00:f0:51:03:fd,
      and requires IRQ44 (provided by PCI BIOS).
de4x5.c:V0.544 1999/5/8 davies@maniac.ultranet.com

Try this particular version of the driver (I can provide it).
