Do you have bind running anywhere or are you using your ISP's nameserver
on your subnet?  Either way, it sounds like it's not finding some/all of
the hosts it needs to find in /etc/hosts and in the DNS (check resolv.conf
for a good nameserver entry).

I *highly* recommend running bind on at least one machine within your
subnet, even if it's just a caching-only nameserver.
