That was a packaging error on my part. I allowed debhelper to check the
dependencies instead of hard-coding them in there. As a result, they used
the current substvar from the libc6.1 package that was on my system at the
time. These new packages don't suffer from that problem at all since I
rolled them all by hand and made sure that they were as generic as
possible.
Also, the way that I structured the dependencies, it forces proper
installation order and also prevents the -ev5 and -ev6 specific packages
from being installed simultaneously on one system.
