Hmm... I really can't help you much with this, as I have no access to
an Alpha machine and also don't know the architecture very well :-(
If you say the slink version worked and potato doesn't, it might as
well be a compiler problem. Not much code has changed in the meantime,
but a lot in the development environment.
I'm Cc-ing this to the debian-alpha list, maybe someone there has a
clue...
