libc6 never really existed on alpha, as far as I understand it.
Unfortunately, dependencies on it are sometimes hardcoded into
packages' sources.

Hmmm, according to the current Packages file, eterm depends on:
imlib1 (>=1.3), libc6.1, libjpegg6a, libpng2, libtiff3g,
xlib6g (>= 3.3-5), zlib1g
No giflib3 there... Note that giflib is in non-free, and no package in
the main debian distribution may depend (solely) on another package which
isn't also in the main dist. If there are such packages, that's a bug.

Should be OK, I think. Best would be to get giflib3 fixed (I'll have
a look this evening).
