Trouble Compiling Any Kernel

Hello,
	I'm writing this out of frustration with getting a custom kernel
compiled on my new Alphastation 200.  I need to have masquerading, and
the TGA console as well (I have a Digital video card).
	I've tried 2.0.34, 2.0.35, 2.1.103, 2.1.104, 2.1.106, 2.1.108,
2.1.109, 2.1.110, and 2.1.111pre1, all to no avail.  They all error out
with various problems.
	I guess I'm asking if anyone knows of a kernel version that will
do what I want it to do.  Also, I'd be interested to see the .config file
for the avanti image dated 07/04/98 from ftp.debian.org.  That's what I'm
running now.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!
