Hard Lockups :(

ok i just had my first unexplainable hard lockup

an excert from messages is at the end of this message

while in x i tried to run vi and vi complained about not
able to access swap...

then i typed 'id' and id responded with 'Bus error'
not the response i hoped, then 2 seconds later
everything was locked up (no numblock toggle and
no responses to pings)

some stats...

200mhz axppci33 (yes its a 166 overclocked but i
kinda doubt that this is the problem because when i
never used to run X i never had a problem *shrug*

4 meg S3 virge
XFree 3.3.1 S3 server
Redhat 4.2
linux 2.0.30 with no modules
64 megs of ram...

etc...
any ideas?

thanks
nick
