That terminology is used in rocminfo for reporting the .amdgcn_target that would be used for the GPU [8]. The .amdgcn_target begins with a target-triple, followed by the gfx number as the processor in the target-id component:

  ISA Info:
    ISA 1
      Name: amdgcn-amd-amdhsa--gfx906:sramecc+:xnack-
