NIH notice NOT-OD-25-081 on "Protecting Human Genomic Data when Developing Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools and Applications"

Hello everybody,

I just want to share with you a policy from the U.S. NIH which I find relevant
in the context of Debian's discussion on AI model license terms. I will be
pleased if you find it interesting but I do not intend to spark a discussion
now.

Here is the extract that I think is of relevance to us:

"NIH considers generative AI models, including model parameters, developed by
Approved Users of controlled-access data to constitute Data Derivatives [...].
NIH intends to provide future guidance on the responsible use and sharing of
generative AI models and controlled-access data. Until that guidance is issued
[...], Approved Users of controlled-access data [...] (1) may not share the
model [that is derived from the controlled-access data], including model
parameters, except with collaborators who are also Approved Users and (2) may
not retain the generative AI model, including model parameters, upon closeout
of the project"

Have a nice day,
