/run/pi? Is that really Debian?
* Yes, pi is a RaspberryPI made by Debian.
It uses a light version of LXDE on a Raspberry PI, but this is X86.

So you are missing the libsndfile1 package. The provider of voxin should
fix their installer into making sure that this library really is there.
* I did contact Gilles Cass too, but haven't heard back yet.
When you said

Was it really speaking as voxin would?
* Yes, it was the IBM voice.
