Hello,
I'm still working on this issue with no Orca in the
log in window.
I suspect that Orca is running, but there is no
audio being provided at this point.
I think that the main user has ownership of the
audio system.
I tried removing pulseaudio, but it said that it is
not installed.
I tried this because I played some audio commands
over SSH and they did not work, but they did work on the actual
machine.
When I experienced this on the Debian that is on my
Asus, I discovered that removing pulseaudio fixed that, so I was hoping that
would work here.
So, my next idea is to try to give general
ownership to the audio system, and perhaps in the log in window, I'll have
audio.
How do I unrestrict ownership of the
audio?
Thanks.
Glenn

Subject: Voice In Log In Window For Changing Desktops Hello Group,
In Ubuntu24 I have no screenreader in the log in
window.
I found a lot of references on line about selecting
my desktop from the log in window.
I've changed it in update alternatives but it stays
in Mate.
Does anyone know how I can enable the screenreader
in the log in window?
I've been able to call it up in years past in the
log in dialog, but everything I try does not bring up Orca.
Thanks for any ideas.
Glenn
