Although it does not seem to be the case here, I'll mention again that when
speech, or more specifically, audio, be sure to switch back to the host and
bring up the menus in VmWare and where it shows connected devices, like the
com ports and such, make sure the audio is still checked.
It sometimes gets disconnected for me in a VM session once in a while.
control alt takes you out of the guest session, and control G puts you back
into it.

This sounds like the same issue that has been bugging me for over a year
now, where espeak stops speaking, without crashing. It seems to happen only
in virtual machines.
