Uh, that's odd: I can't find your original report in my mails, so I
completely missed it.  That assertion is indeed quite harsh, and may
trigger while running a screen reader.  I didn't intend to keep it
applied actually, it just happened to slip in while committing something
else :/ Such a case condition can indeed pose problems in some very rare
conditions.  I have thus replaced the assertion with just a warning, so
that you don't systematically get a crash, and if there are odd things
happening, we have a clue that it might be because of this case.
