Ok, I was just using the wrong initrd. I used the "hd-media" variant.
instead of the "cdrom" variant. However, the initrd is still missing
falconide which is - I assume - required for the Atari IDE controller.

In any case, we need to add

initcall_blacklist=atari_scsi_driver_init debian-installer/framebuffer=false

on the kernel command line.
