You can reset PRAM manually (restart and hold down Command-Option-P-R keys 
until you hear the startup chime two or three times). It is worth a try, 
although if PRAM were invalid the ROM should ignore it anyway.

BTW, I run all of my Macs with no batteries (and have Linux set the clock 
from a network time source). But ISTR that there are a couple of LC models 
that won't power up at all without a good battery.

The Centris 650 in my experience doesn't need a battery. All of which 
makes me think that the problem with your Mac is unrelated to PRAM or 
clock battery (failed electrolytic capacitors perhaps?).
