BTW, I had a quick look for other bug fixes that might need backporting 
(neglecting coldfire) and I found this:

I gather it applies to 64-bit cross-compilers (or those with sizeof(long) 
== 8 at least). So it may not relate to your present goal but 
Debian/Ubuntu users will most likely want it sooner or later.
