What does this bug exactly do? I mean, is it completely impossible to use a 53C710 SCSI controller or it fails only with certain peripherals? On my SCSI chain, on the A4000T, there are only an IBM hard disk drive and a TEAC CD-ROM unit. Should I try to replace them with IDE peripherals?Yes, this is caused by a bug in the 53c7x0 driver. You may want to try a different kernel. I doubt this will get fixed in a 2.4 kernel, but it may get fixed in a 2.6 kernel (once my patches to use the 53c700 driver are in).
