According to the buildd.net database, mcmcpack has been tried to build
between 2007-01-21 07:09:09 (anthy) and 2007-01-21 14:29:06 (mini-httpd):

buildd=# select dtstamp, uptime, lavg, memfree, swapfree from hoststats
where dtstamp between '2007-01-21 07:00:00' and '2007-01-21 14:29:06' and
buildd='aahz';
          dtstamp           |    uptime     |      lavg      | memfree | swapfree

buildd.net reports for mcmcpack:
mcmcpack               | 0.8-1-1            | 2007-01-21 09:09:06 | 01:40:07 | unstable

Sadly, the update pulse for the stats at 9:03 is missing, but I doubt that
it's a matter of too less memory as aahz has 1.1 GB of swap. And
additionally: I would have observed excessive memory usage on vivaldi,
because I usually have a running top in one of my screens. And below the
top, there's a tail -F syslog.
A SCSI problem is unlikely because vault13 seems to have been crashed as
well, some time ago, and it's using an IDE disk only.

So, I guess r-base triggers a hard and sudden lock of the kernel.
