ds2 is for 'Debian Source 2'. Only the gcc source package carry it, not
the binary. ds2-17 have m68k bugs that are fixed in ds2-20 so I strongly
suggest to get the ds2-20 sources (use apt-get source gcc-4.1 on the
ppc, not on the m68k).

ok, i get 20 now. what i should do is recompile first the cross compiler, then
actually use that to build 20 binary package for 68k, then install those, then
try distcc. since my cd has 13 on it. or else wait for m68k 20 version to show
up, there is usually a week delay here.

You could use a specific network to communicate to the 68k box, use
ipmasq on the ppc (for gateway) and have distcc only listen to that
network. That is what I do.

ok, i picked up ipmasq, but once again those debconf questions also are greek
to me. i leave it disabled until i can study the documentation, i
guess. but this
sounds like a good thing for me if it works, i had directions once to
set up the gateway and lost them, this provides a secure solution.
(or appears to, hope it works here as i have need for it)

please pardon the slow responses as my main email machine is still down...
