2.6.17-2-mac disk size calculation question

Hi all M68k linuxers:
 When 2.2.25-mac boots,  it reports that my 17850264 512-byte sectors 
/dev/sdb is 8715 MB in size,
but 2.6.17-2-mac says it is 9139 MB.  I've run (tried) the 2.6 and it 
reports this each time.
