xserver shutdown problem

Any tips what may cause X to shutdown by itself?
I have install the debian version 2.2 (Potato) to my quadra 650, but every
time when I launch X, it goes through it and then dumps back to prompt with
a message of waiting for xserver shutdown. I believe is windowMaker that's
causing the problem, because after installing gnome desktop, it broke X.

Here's a spec of my cpu.
1G hd partitions
40M Swap on sda5
800M Root on sda6
193M Apple HFS on sda7

72M of physical ram
512k internal Vram
