MACE on a Q840AV

I'm a newbie to mac68k Linux, but not to linux in general. I have Yellowdog Linux up and running famously on an iMac DV SE 400. I previously had BSD 1.5 the Q840AV box outlined below, but thought I'd try doing Linux instead.

I've done a minimal install of Debian 2.2/potato on a:

Quadra 840AV
32 meg RAM
System 8.0
67 meg Mac Partition
62.5 meg swap partition
566 meg root partition

via macinstall.tgz.Official Debian 2.2 m68k
CDs are on the way in the mail.

The MACE ethernet interface is not being recognized by the kernel and so I cannot use this to connect to other boxes on my internal network or to the net via my iMac router. MACE is listed as supported via the kernel. Am I missing something simple or hould I wait for the CDs to do a more complete install?
