maybe you are, I am using 3.3.6 on all my systems.
But you are running slink, I am running potato. For i386, there are
(unofficial) xfree 3.3.6(?) debs available, for m68k, they are not
available, but you should be able to build them with not much more trouble
than the potato debs are being built. See BTS and debian-x, or just download
the source package and try.

I bet it does, also Branden included quite a few patches to the orig xfree
source.

there will be no newer xfree in the current stable, we were not even allowed
to put in a new one which fixes the config trouble.
but there will be a new stable release sometime, maybe even for m68k,
however this is the current frozen, whith which you seem to have trouble?

Why? Does it run too well for you? xfree installs and you do not have to
search the config file yourself? Even the mouse works immidiately?
Sorry, I cant help if you have problems like that, I thought it was a
feature.
If you have problems with potato (thats frozen, not unstable) why dont you
give a little more hints? There are no official boot-floppies yet (you've
seen my announcement of the boot-floppies for testing?), so you have to
install slink and upgrade to potato. That should work rather well.
