And would you please care to explain what you expect from /dev/atarimouse
on a Mac? 

(as its name suggests, it is the mouse device for Atari 68k computers ...)

Present, yes. But files in /dev are only ways to access device drivers in
the kernel. The error 'operation not supported' just means 'there is no
Atari mouse driver on your Mac'. Surprised? 

Try /dev/adbmouse.
