I got 800x600x8 on an Amiga A1200 (AGA only) and 1024x768x8 (I think) on
an A2000 +Picasso II (until the PII stopped working) . I had some
problems with the virtual desktop settings corrupting the display - I
think I had to use at least 801x600 on the A1200 and only 1152x900
worked on the A2000. Unfortunately, neither of the systems is running
Debian at the moment, so I can't check. But at least I can confirm
that it worked (on Potato).
