A friend of mine told me to try:

mount -t msdos -o rw, -G /dev/hda1 /mnt

That did not work. The biggest problem is finding out what type of
filesystem to use. I tried minix and it did not, but of course I am
just starting out. I could have messed up the command.

Probably VFAT. Would I use that in the mount command? When I boot
install program up, I can see that it recognizes my IDE drive. All the
partitions are listed out. However, when the installation process gets
to the part where I am suppose to tell it where the Debian folder with
my base, the IDE partitions are not listed as a choice. Only the CD-ROM
drive, floppy and a SCSI partition are listed.
