Carl,

Are you running the Mode32 extension when booting the Mac System? The IICX
(along with the SE30, and maybe some others) had 'dirty' ROMs that preclude
32-bit addressing unless this extension is installed.

It is free from (I think) Apple's web site, and I think is on the first of
the Debian CDs. Install it, enable 32-bit addressing in the Memory control
panel, disable virtual memory in the same panel and reboot the Mac.
