Cannot compile KDE

While trying to compile kdebase after compiling and installing kdesupport and
-libs, both with RPMs and debian sources, I get the following error while
configuring:

configure:4113: checking for KDE libraries installed
configure:4116: /bin/sh ./libtool --silent --mode=link g++ -o conftest -O2 -g -Wall -Wno-uninitialized -I/usr/include/kde -I/usr/include/qt  -I/usr/X11R6/include  -s -L/usr/lib  -L/usr/X11R6/lib conftest.C  -lkdecore -lqt -lXext -lX11  -rpath /usr/lib -rpath /usr/X11R6/lib  1>&5
BUG IN DYNAMIC LINKER ld.so: ../sysdeps/m68k/dl-machine.h: 260: elf_machine_rela: Assertion `! "unexpected dynamic reloc type"' failed!
samson:~/kdebase-1.1.1-19990523/build#

Has anyone seen this error before? Are there binary-debs around for KDE on
m68k?
