I would advise against using the R&D equipment for such things. If it isn't broken 1/2 the time you aren't doing it right ;)

but setting up a 2nd rig that is mostly always up isn't out of the question.

Anyway, I say _we_ but chances are I won't have time to help this year...

If other are against it I don't mind telling him we can't.

What did you do yesterday?
what are you going to do next?
what is blocking you?
