Hi folks, It's about time we started planning for DebConf16. We managed to get our act together last year by some frantic last-minute planning, but that wasn't the best way to do such things (and, frankly, it would also fail this year, due to the larger distances involved). We also have a lot more work to do, I think, than last year. So it's time to get cracking! First, I think the big question is how we're going to record dc16. We said we wouldn't use dvswitch anymore, but that presupposes the existence of an alternative. That alternative would be voctomix, but I don't know whether that's usable. I understand it has been tested in production at linux.conf.au, but I don't know what the result of those tests was. Anyone here have more insight on that? If the result was satisfactory, I think we should use voctomix. If not, I have reason to believe that the issues we were having with dvswitch may have been related to the switch to libav; if that is the case, the crashes we were experiencing may be fixed now that Debian has switched back to ffmpeg. With that knowledge, it *may* be possible to get dvswitch to run again. However, I would prefer not to spend too much time on this; it is time to move on! After that, we need to decide what we're going to do in terms of hardware etc, but I think that it makes more sense to figure that out after having decided on a course of action wrt the software we'd use (since, after all, the hardware needs might be different based upon the software decisions). Regards, -- < ron> I mean, the main *practical* problem with C++, is there's like a dozen people in the world who think they really understand all of its rules, and pretty much all of them are just lying to themselves too. -- #debian-devel, OFTC, 2016-02-12
