Re: [Debconf-team] Questions for the DebConf18 teams

<snipped>

Hi all,

Warning - Longish mail.

My 2 paise and I'm biased towards Taiwan as it is geographically near to it.

madduck hit it on the deck, not pointing out just the cost but also
the distance.

For instance, I just found out few days back that Canada Airways would
have a non-stop between Toronto and Mumbai for 19 hours.

So even if there is sponsorship, it would be only the most passionate
ones who will want to go for it. Of course, there are layovers which
would and could lessen the pain but hope I got through the point.

Taiwan, apart from the night markets which was shared by the Taiwan
team in debconf16 also has lot of gadget freaks.

I remember in the late 90's lots of TV shows which showed gadgets,
went almost every year to Taiwan to check out what new technology had
come.

IIRC some of those stores also has lots of video gaming systems and
japanese-to-english dubbed/converted crpgs and srpgs . If my memory is
right, they also did gaming tournaments similar to Malaysia does.

That might interest some but then again , it depends on the interest
of the community as a whole and the prepardeness of the Taiwanese
team.

About Brazil I do not know much apart from the 'carnival' , 'party
destination' , has beaches similar to Goa (or more bigger) is humid
and IIRC also has rainforests. They speak Portugese (actually the Goan
culture comes from this place) . Also IIRC the climate round the year
is somewhat humid hence people go to the beach round the year to cool
off. They do also have rainforests but don't remember where.

They do a mean job of percussions though (on drum) and they have
their own martial art which I can't remember the name of atm.

We, as in India and Brazil are neck-to-neck as far as GDP and other
things are concerned, but Brazil has inched a bit ahead.

The only downer I see is that it would be in the same continent (the
Americas). For Americans, Canadians it would be easier and cheaper to
travel. For Europeans there might be some slight difference between
Brazil and Taiwan but not much, at least from what I could see at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Clickable_world_map

The upcoming debconf would be great to have a shoot-out between the
two contendors regarding debconf :)
