I agree to keep it simple. Both for attendees but also for those that
have to do the room allocation.

Would this mean that all the 5-8 person rooms would only be filled with
4 persons? As I argued in a reply to vorlons proposal this feels
completely wrong to me as we would wast quite some IMHO quite acceptable
beds. Maybe we could have 2 upgrade options. One to a room with bedding
and another one to a 4 person room. And then use or not use all the beds
in the 5-8 person rooms depending on which upgrades sell better.
If we are doing this per week (which I think is fine) we have to make
this super clear to everyone. I fear that in the end we will once again
start to do special case prices, like it was done with the prof/corp
fees in the past.

To me your proposal seems quite different to vorlons. While as I
understand it, vorlon wants to open all rooms to sponsored attendees
depending on their tolerance to additional roommates, in your proposal
only the sleeping bag rooms are open for completely sponsored attendees.
