Re: [Debconf-team] day trip options

Given the current budget considerations and after reading Zack's mail
which well summarizes my own views on how seriously the money flow
should be taken, I would suggest *not* sponsoring the daytrip at all.
And certainly not the baseball game, except maybe for people for
really can't afford it.

Think about DC7. The daytrip was very successful despite it not being
sponsored (and even being organized, and so well organized, at the
last minute).

I would personnaly be ashamed to be sponsored for going to watch a
baseball game...and I do like baseball. The same probably stands for
the vast majority of people going there. And very certainly not all of
them who checked the daytrip option do like baseball enough to stay
for up to 2-3 hours in a stadium..:)

An exception could be made for people who have been put in queues A
and B for travel sponsorship, in order to make it possible for people
with very low budget to still participate in one of Debconf's social
events.

I also share Blars view: I'm skeptic about 200 DC attendees wanting to
attend a full baseball game. So it would be even more a shame if some
DC money is wasted in buying tickets that won't be used....or for
something that people won't enjoy.

It's probably time to mail people who registered for the daytrip to
say them: the daytrip will be <foo> and optionnally includes attending
a baseball game (give details about the game and location here). In
order to buy tickets in advance, we would like you to confirm one of
these options:

- I won't attend the daytrip at all (default if you don't confirm)
- I will attend the daytrip except for baseball
- I will attend the daytrip including baseball ($15 baseball ticket sponsored)
- I will attend the daytrip including baseball (paying $15 on my own for baseball ticket)

Doing this in Penta, if possible, would probably help.

Of course, please take this as a "nearly outsider" point of view, my
only "quality" here being that I attended all Debconfs since DC4..:-)
