Re: [Debconf-discuss] hardware which runs Debian or a blend or a sub-set, debian blends, gaming on open day/week-end.

Wow, that sounds like a great idea if done! It showcases the versatility of Debian beautifully, but is it possible to pull it together?

Hi all,

Warning - Would be slightly longish mail. Apologies for noise.

Maybe it's too late in the day but for quite sometime I had been
thinking/dreaming if we could have/show-cased Debian running on
various hardware doing different things, unusual things . While Debian
on the desktop, workstation and server and Debian on ARM is somewhat
known there are and would probably be some unusual devices where
Debian or a sub-set/blend is used.

For instance, Debian-Edu would be a good candidate to share and
showcase as well as Debian Med and other such blends which run/use
specific hardware which ties in debian, for instance the galileo
package which just entered Debian archive just today which works with
'fitbit' devices (have no idea what they are.).

There would also be quite some equipment which probably is integrated
or in process of being integrated/reverse-engineered which people
would love to see.

IIRC, even HP one of the main sponsors of debconf, is/was bringing out
'The Machine'  although later we don't know what is happening to it,
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/207897-hp-kills-the-machine-repurposes-design-around-conventional-technologies

One of the DD's was working with HP 'The Machine' project. I also
remember that some VR packages were made for Debian (and are the
archive I *think*) , it would be good/nice if are able to try out HP's
backpack for VR
http://www.in.techradar.com/news/gaming/HP-and-MSIs-backpacks-put-a-new-spin-on-VR/articleshow/52467485.cms
and see what can be worked within the Debian universe.

Similarly as there would be kids (as well as big kids/adults) who
might like to blow off steam once in a while, we could have few
systems where we have games like 0ad or/and vdrift, supertuxkart among
others who could get some potential new users while having good PR for
Debian too.

The only downside I see here is that we would need slightly large
number of volunteers than some of the other choices that indiebio has
outlined. https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf16/DebianDay

What do people think/make of above ?
