In 1998, Pioneer did give a 30 year warranty on DVD-R media.

In general, DVDs have a higher probability for reliability as there are at least
two plastic layers that are joined with hot-glue while CDs only have a 
paintwork coating.

It would be nice if there was an official way to read the error correction info.

>From my current experiences, I would recommend Verbatim media.
