IMHO u've mistaken closing disk and burning lead-out (which is what 
option -dvd-compat does) with closing single session - if session is 
unclosed it is invisible for mount/kernel (u can't mount such medium if 
it's the first session) and u even can't add another until u close this 
one. what i expect from growisofs is that after burn process ends 
dvd+rw-mediainfo gives following info:
(...)
> READ DISC INFORMATION:
>  Disc status:           appendable
>  Number of Sessions:    3
>  State of Last Session: empty
>  "Next" Track:          3
>  Number of Tracks:      3
(...)
which means that u can burn another session and that the session u've 
just burned is closed (notice that nextTrack == numberOfTracks here 
unlike in my previous post). this was the normal behaviour in 
dvd+rw-tools-5.17 and sometimes happens when i use dvd+rw-tools-5.21.
