Well, the wording actually leaves room for ambiguous interpretation. It
reads "DATA LENGTH field specifies the length in bytes of the following
data that is available to be transferred." "Following" brings the
ambiguity into it. "The data that is available to be transferred" can be
interpreted as "header size + page size as it appears in unit memory."
But "the *following* data..." can as well be interpreted as "data
available in this particular transfer." Then note that in other similar
cases ambiguity is explicitly eliminated by stating for example "This
length shall not be truncated due to an insufficient Allocation Length."
Lack of similar qualifying statement for MODE SENSE command only
strengthen the ambiguity. A.
