Same here only used google, which seemed to want to make me understand how "hypothecated" should be used.
My hunch is the two words are equivalent in some vague sense of functionality, but clearly we Yankees are put off by "apothecated," and begin, when we see it, to wonder if we have any prescriptions that need to be picked up at the good old apothecary.
