　/var/log/syslog の内容を記載頂けると分かるかもしれません。
　別コンソール（大抵の場合はtty4で）で開けます。
　（切り替えはAlt+F4、かな？

　もう一つ、ダウンロードしたイメージは上記のdebian-7.5.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
