Participation in Outreach Program For Women
===========================================
As announced last month, Debian is participating in the GNOME Outreach
Program for Women[1,2], which is an internship program aimed at getting
more women involved in Free Software.
There's more information at [3]. Specifically:
- you can apply (as an intern) before Nov 11th.
- you can donate to help Debian participate in the program at [4]
(before Nov 14th).

Ongoing discussion on init systems
==================================
In case you missed it, there's an ongoing discussion on init systems.
Thanks to Paul Tagliamonte, the Debian Technical Committee has been
officially asked[1] to decide on the {default,supported} init system(s)
for jessie.
This issue has already been discussed at length during the past months,
in mailing list threads that could be described as ... heated. If you
contribute to the discussions, please remain civil, and enforce a high
S/N ratio.
Another great way to contribute to a good decision is to acquire
first-hand experience with the various solutions *yourself*. Have you
tried booting and managing services with them? What about supporting
them in your packages (or in someone else's packages)? Your feedback
on this, especially if you encountered some hurdles, would probably
be an interesting and useful read.

Discussion on using Content Delivery Networks
=============================================
The Debian System Administration Team (DSA) started a discussion[1] on
the possibility to use CDNs to deliver content (ftp.d.o, www.d.o,
security.d.o, ...) to Debian users, in addition to the mirrors network
(and possibly, at some point, replacing the mirrors network).
This is an interesting discussion on the frontier between Free Software
and free infrastructure, and determining where we stand is not easy.

Thanks to the collaboration of DSA and Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña,
http://manpages.debian.org/ was turned into an official service and
moved to the .debian.org domain name. Generally, it's great to see
useful unofficial services become officially part of Debian
infrastructure.
how-can-i-help now lists packages removed from testing
======================================================
The 'how-can-i-help' package[1] lists opportunities for contributions
to Debian. Since version 0.9, it also lists packages installed locally
that were removed from testing (for example during the automatic
removals managed by the release team[2]). Thanks to Joseph Herlant,
Christophe Siraut and Arthur de Jong for their contributions to this
package!

packaging-tutorial translated to Japanese, Portuguese and Russian
=================================================================
The 'packaging-tutorial' package[1] provides an introduction to
Debian packaging. It is now available in Japanese, Portuguese and
Russian in addition to English, French, German and Spanish.

Machine for debian-installer developer; RAM for m68k machines
--------------------------------------------------------------
Following a discussion on -project@[1], I authorized the purchase
of a desktop machine to facilitate testing of d-i, and work on
automated tests. Expected amount: 1500-2000 EUR
I also authorized the purchase of memory expansion cards for m68k
buildds or porterboxes. Expected amount: 500 EUR

Release team sprint
