Bug#680306: How have you managed to do that?

You didn't get the idea. That commit
(ab7291d368ddc66ad21c5ad5caa0faeee42ccaf1) works absolutely perfectly
on my side, with full 2D and 3D acceleration, w/o any gotchas, w/o any
artifacts, etc. But if it is build from "vanilla" git, w/o any
02-drm-nouveau-newabi.patch you mentioned. Works absolutely fine, as
it was for a long time when I used debian's packages for this and
before I met "no text, no icons..." issue.

Okay, that's your rules, your bureaucracy.

Known to be broken? Then why I haven't any response to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=679127 in ~2 weeks?

Well, it shall be the first step if anybody will get "no text, no
icons...". And as I already said, it can also be done via
``nouveau.noaccel=1'' in kernel arg's line.

Well, can you just deny that "preventing-linking-with" patch for at
least for PowerPC?
P.S.: that Nouveau's dev also told me a lot about smth called "DDX"
and that it is the actual issue. Hope this can help too.
